Treat others as you want to be treated. Matthew 7:12 states it that simply. Improve your life today by treating those around you with kindness and respect.

share market--Which are the best shares to buy in India for a long term investment?

Never invest in a stock with long term view. Always review your portfolio once in three months. Why? Because 50% of the listed companies can become penny stocks in 10 years. The sector as a whole can be hitting the bottom.
Learn the art of picking stocks. Learn very basic fundamentals about the stocks. Identify 10 to 15 good sectors with 3 years timeline. Be aware about the business of the company you invest in. Know the best fundamental parameters to evaluate a stock.
Find 2 good stocks from a sector and invest in total 20 to 25 stocks. Don't invest in lesser stocks, diversify to absorb market volatility and sector rotation volatility. You should remember that equity mutual funds have more than 40 stocks on average. Don't invest in more than 40 stocks. It can become difficult to track.
With 6 months to 12 months view I like the following stocks:
1.       Jubilant life or Aarti drugs (Pharma)
2.      Sonata software or hexaware (IT)
3.      RBL bank or Bhandhan Bank (Banking)
4.      L&T financial or JM Financial (NBFC)
5.      Bluestar or IFB Ind (Domestic Appliances)
6.      Meghmani organics or Sharda corp (Agro chemical / pesticide)
7.      Atul (Dye)
8.      Bajaj Auto or TVS motor or Endurance Tech (Autos)
9.      LG bro or Subros (Auto ancillary)

stock market--When a company "buys back" their own stock, is this a good or bad thing for the shareholders?

Because share buybacks reduce the supply of available shares, they tend to increase the stock price. (ie Supply and Demand)

Essentially, the company’s executives are using company profits to drive up the value of their own shares/options. So some critics say it’s a legal way of diverting profits to the execs, though all shareholders benefit if the stock price rises.
